There is a concrete risk of social
tensions coming to the boil when the economic effects of the
COVID crisis begin to bite most sharply this autumn, Interior
Minister Luciana Lamorgese said Thursday.
The risk is real, she said, "because in September and October we
will see the outcome of this period of grave economic crisis.
"We see shops shuttered, citizens who don't even have the
possibility of meeting their daily needs.
"The government has implemented all the initiatives necessary
for meeting these needs, but the risk if concrete and I see an
attitude of violence towards the police force that is absolutely
to be condemned".
Lamorgese was speaking on Rai3.
She said there were growing signs of hostility towards the
forces of law and order.
Italian trade unions have also warned of possible unrest this
autumn.
The Italian economy is set to contract 12-13% this year
according to various forecasts.
