The introduction of psycho-aptitude
tests for aspiring magistrates is not an insult or a violation
of judicial autonomy, Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani said on Wednesday.
"I don't consider the tests to be the least bit offensive or a
violation of the autonomy of the judiciary because they are done
on non-magistrates not on magistrates," said Tajani.
"Had we decided to introduce the tests for magistrates it would
have been an interference but they are for those who want to
become magistrates. I do not understand what all the fuss is
about," he added.
"My daughter is a psychologist and I have done the test. I am
sure that the vast majority of magistrates would be happy,"
concluded Tajani.
On Tuesday the cabinet approved the introduction of
psycho-aptitude tests for people sitting the exam to enter the
judiciary as of 2026.
Magistrates' union ANM has slammed the move as "useless" and
"just propaganda".
