Farmers protesting with their tractors
across Italy must be listened to, Vatican Secretary of State
Cardinal Pietro Parolin said Thursday.
"I believe that farmers must be listened to, there must be a
dialogue, an openness in view of the sustainability of small and
medium-sized farms and for the future of rural areas", said
Parolin on the sidelines of the signing of a declaration of
intent between Italy and the Holy See on the new headquarters of
the Bambino Gesù hospital, one of Italy's top children's
hospitals, which is based in Rome and owned by the Vatican.
Farmers have threatened to unleash their tractors to roam free
in the capital and outside the Sanremo Song Festival unless they
are listened to and given a platform.
