From Anna Lindh Marathon, 5 proposals for EuroMed future

Points on youth, environment, social media, against stereotypes

Rome ANSAcom

The Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) produced some key proposals to further develop its new Agenda for the Mediterranean and EuroMediterranean Cooperation at the conclusion of its Virtual Marathon for Dialogue in the Euromed Region, which took place from May 19 to June 29. The proposals included investing in youth, education in respect for the environment, investing in education, the conscious use of social media and fighting gender and cultural stereotypes, and investing in intercultural policies on a local level. "The recommendations came from broad consultations and can truly become tools for action," said Eleonora Insalaco, ALF director of operations and intercultural research, during the online debate "The key role of partnership in intercultural dialogue" held Juen 29 as the 7th and last public dialogue of the marathon. The first recommendation "that came from all of our conversations is that of investing in youth, which means involving young men and women in all the actions and decision-making processes at a local, national and international level," Insalaco said. The second topic that was particularly highlighted by the marathon is "the centrality of the environment", and on this, the recommendation by ALF is "to work in educational programmes that can increase understanding and respect for the environment, and on a political level, to work on a 'Green Deal' for the Mediterranean," she said. The third priority is that of "investing in education" and "on social media literacy", understanding above all "what all the most appropriate tools for promoting intercultural communication". The fourth recommendation by ALF regards "the fight against cultural and gender stereotypes". Insalaco said it is important to have a "systemic approach" and to "work in education and the media to break stereotypical images that exist around women". Finally, "to promote closer EuroMediterraneansocial and cultural cooperation, it is important to also invest in intercultural policies on a local level" with "the city as a laboratory of intercultural interaction", Insalaco said.
